Disintegrated Devotion:  Mixed-media paintings that explore Black identity as a living archive of memory, spirituality, cultural resilience, and artistic innovation. The work examines how African heritage continues to shape contemporary African American life.. Central to this body of work is the idea of Black devotion—the everyday practices of faith, love, remembrance, creativity, and perseverance that define African American culture. Devotion is expressed not only spiritually, but through the ways families keep traditions, artists narrate stories, neighborhoods create beauty, musicians transform pain into rhythm, and communities continue to imagine what true freedom looks like.

I believe it is rooted in the traditions of African visual culture and the revolutionary spirit of hip-hop, each painting investigates identity not as a fixed image but as an evolving composition built from ancestry, community, music, ritual, and lived experience

My work investigates the diversity within Blackness while borrowing from the visual language of graffiti, abstraction, hip-hop, and the urban environment. Through fragmented portraiture and layered mixed media, I seek to reclaim power for the Black image by revealing the public and private conversations embedded within our culture.

These paintings are acts of reconstruction. They acknowledge that our identities are shaped by inherited traditions, cultural innovation, and the environments we occupy. African visual culture exists alongside contemporary street aesthetics, illustrating that heritage is not static—it evolves with every generation.

Hip-hop serves as both methodology and metaphor. Like sampling in music, I layer images, textures, and histories to create portraits that honor complexity rather than perfection. The work celebrates Black beauty while confronting the ways identity has been fractured through history, ultimately transforming those fragments into monuments of resilience.
